Vision 2020, The Strategic Plan for Hillbrook School
Founded in 1935, Hillbrook School remains deeply connected to its historical roots as a school where children are known, learning is authentic and active, and success is measured one child at a time. During the past 80 years, we have grown and evolved from a small boarding school serving wards of the state to one of the leading independent schools in the Bay Area. Yet, our vision remains the same - to inspire children to achieve their dreams and reach beyond themselves to make a difference in the world.
Hillbrook's Vision 2020 reflects the collaborative efforts of its faculty, staff, leadership, and families, and it incorporates the values of the greater Bay Area community that we call home. The future of Hillbrook is a bright one, and it is because of our shared philosophy and commitment to excellence in providing a diverse, inclusive environment in which students from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds can inquire, explore, grow, and learn. Key stakeholders came together to cast vision and dream, and from this time together, the Hillbrook School Strategic Plan was born. At this moment of extraordinary strength, we enthusiastically look toward our future, knowing that the best schools continue to ask questions and seek ways to meet our vision and mission better.

Coming Together for Vision 2020

1. Reimagine the Student Experience

At Hillbrook School, we commit to meeting students where they are. Our school is intentionally located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the worldwide epicenter of transformation, interaction, and growth. This culture of innovation is a part of our school’s philosophy, too, and we live this in several ways.
  • We will partner with local organizations to create opportunities for social entrepreneurship-based programs and projects for students in JK-8. Our partnership with community partners provides an immersive environment in which students are encouraged to engage in real-world, experiential learning experiences and see how they can make an impact in their home communities.
  • We will adopt new schedules across JK-8th grades that meet the needs of students and fosters a learning experience that inspires our students to reach their highest individual potential in school and in life.
  • We will design and build The Hub. The Hub will be an integrated space and the epicenter for science, technology, engineering, and arts. The Hub will be a 21st-century workshop conducive to inquiry, hands-on exploration, and authentic problem-solving. It will create an environment that acts as a catalyst for project-based and experiential learning.

2. Make Hillbrook a Destination Workplace for Educators

Our teachers and staff sit at the heart of the Hillbrook experience we all know and value.. we will be intentional about attracting world-class  educational professionals by offering  incredible employee packages, including assistance with housing and transportation options, competitive compensation, benefits, and emphasizing a culture of inquiry, exploration, and risk-taking. We commit to developing a best-in-class Resident Teacher program that focuses on providing an extraordinary experience for ongoing professional learning and a teaching philosophy that exemplifies our Hillbrook Core Values.

3. Create an Increasingly Diverse and Inclusive Community

Hillbrook is an intentionally diverse community and we know that this diversity strengthens our community and the educational experience our children enjoy every day. aWe aim to ensure that all students, families, and staff feel full membership in our community with an academic program and culture that  instills cultural competencyWe also commit to adopting a flexible student tuition model, expanding our tuition assistance program.

4. Ensure Operational Excellence and Long-Term Financial Sustainability

The Possibilities Are Endless.

What if…
  •  you imagined an educational model that integrated service learning in order to develop global citizens capable of making the world a better place?
  • you imagined an educational model that turned a makerspace into an actual hub that facilitated growth, learning, and empowerment through experiential learning and a tailor-made curriculum?
  • a student's passions and strengths aligned with real-world projects that make a difference and achieve best-in-class academic goals?
Challenging ourselves with these questions, committed to making the world a better place and equipping students to reach their highest individual potential in school and in life. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion, combined with our philosophy and experiential learning model, and supported by our leadership and strong teachers, creates an environment that nurtures students who will champion a future we cannot yet imagine.
