Hillbrook Allied Forces Robotics Team Finishes the Season with a Solid Showing
2/26/2013On Sunday, March 3rd, six Hillbrook 5th graders spent close to ten hours competing in the Silicon Valley Regional Championships. Curtis, Jordi, Lorenzo, Nikhil, Dominic and Liam have dubbed themselves the Hillbrook Allied Forces. These intrepid young men started working together in March 2012, and on Sunday were some of the youngest competitors at the event. The team's goal was to complete a clean robotics run early in the competition, and then "swing for the fences" with whatever trials they had left. And they did it! With a clean second run, they gave themselves the opportunity to pull out all the stops. The team came tantalizingly close to improving their final score. The boys did their best and took a risk to push beyond. Before their last run, the team called out their cheer: "Hillbrook Allied Forces! Yes, That will work!"The Hillbrook Allied Forces finished the season 12th overall in the Silicon Valley District (out of 128+ teams), and 2nd amongst all the rookie teams. The team's performance was admirable not only in the robotics arena, but also in their approach, and in the solutions they created for their required project. All six boys were true team players, displaying support for one another whenever it was needed. The boys also learned about issues confronting seniors today, and designed a very interesting solution and presentation for some of the issues many seniors face.
The Hillbrook Allied Forces have much to be proud of!
