Hillbrook Students Contribute 100 iPads to Local Youth Organization, Treasures 4 Teens

On Monday morning during our weekly community-wide Flag gathering, Hillbrook middle school students presented a donation of 100 iPads to Treasures 4 Teens vice-chairperson and Hillbrook alumna Sophie Mortaz (‘13) to benefit underserved teens from around Silicon Valley.

Each donated iPad will be given to of teens and families with limited resources through a Treasures 4 Teens partner organization, the Campbell Community Toys Program or West Valley Community Services. 8th grade Student Council class representatives Hannah Sobczyn and Simon Treille introduced Treasures 4 Teens to our JK-8th grade student body and presented the iPads on behalf of our school.

“Sophie, thank you for reaching beyond yourself and making a difference in the world,” Sobczyn said, acknowledging how Sophie is leading our local community and living out Hillbrook’s vision.

Established in 2010, Treasures 4 Teens was started by youths in Los Gatos who observed a lack of gift giving for underserved teens during the holiday season. Six year later, the program is supported primarily by highly-motivated Los Gatos high school-aged students serving underprivileged teens in many ways throughout the year.

This year, Hillbrook’s theme focuses on “reaching beyond ourselves and making a difference in the world.” In September, the entire school participated in a week dedicated to on- and off-campus service through Hillbrook’s first Week of Service. Inspired by the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance, each of our students and dedicated parent volunteers participated in on- and off-campus service learning opportunities that partnered with local organizations, packaging meals, cleaning up our local creeks, learning about recycling, and much more. The spirit of empathy and giving stays strong as Hillbrook students and alumni are touching their communities and forwarding positive change and helping others everyday.
