1st and 2nd Grades: Children explore movement concepts, rules, and principles of sports activities as they continue to develop basic locomotor and non-locomotor movement, balance and coordination, spatial awareness, and the importance of practice in learning new skills.
Good sportsmanship and an emphasis on fairness and cooperation help students develop body, mind, and social skills.
Children enjoy a variety of activities such as swimming, tumbling and balance beam, manipulatives, and coordination activities like jump rope and obstacle course, as well as games of low organization such as frisbee, bat & ball, soccer, hockey, koosh & paddle, and scoops. Each week features a fitness day that stresses flexibility, strength, and endurance. At this level, children meet four times a week for physical education.
