  • Step 1: Request More Information

    Request More Information using our online inquiry form to learn more about our school and admission process. Once you request, we will be able to create a username and password for your family so that you can log in to the Bear's Lair, home of our internal community resources, and apply to Hillbrook. 

    Please contact our Admission Office at admission@hillbrook.org if you would like to apply to Hillbrook but have not yet received a username and password to log in to our online application system.
  • Step 2: Join Us For A Parent Tour

    One of the best ways to get to know Hillbrook is by experiencing our school and community for yourself.

    We invite prospective parents to join us for a small group Parent Tour.

    Hillbrook also hosts a Fall Open House in November and grade-level specific School Day Open Houses in January. Our Open House events will give you a sense of our vibrant and welcoming community and also provide an opportunity to connect with current students, parents, faculty, and our Head of School.
  • Step 3: Apply Online

    We welcome applications as early as September for the following school year. We do consider applications for the current school year, as space occassionally becomes available in a specific grades. Please contact Nikki Butts, Director of Admission, for current availability.

    If you have not done so already, please complete our online inquiry form, so we can create a username and password for your family to log in to our online application system. Contact our Admission Office at admission@hillbrook.org if you would like to apply to Hillbrook but have not yet received a username and password to log in to our online application system.

    Key Admissions Dates:

    • Applications for students entering Middle School (5th-8th Grades) are due January 13, 2017.
    • Applications for students entering Lower School (JK-4th Grades) are due January 27, 2017.
  • Step 4: Submit Supplemental Materials

    Application requirements vary by the grade your child will be entering. Choose from the options below to view a specific list of materials and due dates for your child's grade.

  • Prospective Junior Kindergarten & Kindergarten Students

    Submit a Teacher Recommendation & School Records

    If your child is currently attending preschool, please download a JK-1st Grade Teacher Recommendation Form and the Release of Records form. Please request that your child's current teacher complete the Recommendation and the school submit records (if applicable). All forms are available at the bottom of this page for your convenience.

    These materials can be emailed to admission@hillbrook.org, faxed to Hillbrook at (408) 358-1286, or mailed to Hillbrook by February 17, 2017.

    Schedule a Play Date Screening

    Sharing our program with your child is an important and valuable step in our admission process. Children entering Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten participate in a Play Date Screening, which includes group activities in classroom settings and personal time with teachers. A member of the admission team will reach out to schedule your child's Play Date Screening after you submit your completed online application.

    Parents can select from the following Playdate Screening Opportunties:

    February 3, 2017: 9:30-11 AM
    February 8, 2017: 9:30-11 AM
    February 16, 2017: 9:30-11 AM

  • Prospective 1st-4th Grade Students

    Submit a Teacher Recommendation and School Records

    Download the Release of Records Form and the applicable Teacher Recommendation Form for the grade your child is entering. Junior kindergarten, kindergarten, and 1st grade applicants will download the JK-1st Grade Recommendation Form and applicants to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade will download the 2nd-8th Grade Recommendation Form. All forms are available at the bottom of this page for your convenience.

    Please provide these recommendation forms to your child's current school and request that records and the completed recommendation be sent directly to Hillbrook by February 17, 2017.     Schedule a School Visit

    Sharing our school and community with your child is a valuable step in the application process. We invite all applicants to participate in a School Visit alongside peers in their current grade level so they can truly experience what it’s like to learn and explore at our school and in our community.

    A member of the admission team will reach out to schedule your child's School Visit after we have received your completed online application. School Visits are typically completed by February 17, 2017.
     
  • Prospective 5th-8th Grade Students

    Take the ISEE

    Hillbrook uses ISEE scores as one piece in the overall consideration of all Middle School  applicants. Through the ISEE, we strive to get to know all applicants as people and as learners.

    Your child can take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) at any available testing location. Visit the ERB Website to find dates and sites for ISEE testing and to register for a seat at the location that is most convenient for you.

    Be sure to specify that you would like the results sent to Hillbrook directly. We must receive your child’s ISEE results by February 17, 2017.

    Schedule a School Visit

    Participate in The Hillbrook Way Experience

    Students applying to 5th-8th grades also have the opportunity to spend an afternoon at Hillbrook engaging in a collaborative, hands-on design thinking activity with other prospective students.

    This is a unique experience that allows each prospective student to actively participate in a student-centered learning opportunity, which is at the heart of Hillbrook’s leading-edge, passion-driven approach to teaching and learning.

    During this activity, students will participate fully in what Hillbrook students experience daily as “The Hillbrook Way," asking questions, starting projects informed by their own choice and passion, collaborating with peers and teachers, and showing their work.

    Do parents or prospective students need to prepare for this experience?

    Bring your curiosity and your open mind - there is nothing an applicant needs to do in advance of this experience.

    After receiving your completed application, our admission team will contact you to schedule a time for your child to participate in The Hillbrook Way Experience.

    Parents can choose from the following dates:
    • January 19, 2017 from 3-4:30 PM
    • February 1, 2017 from 3-4:30 PM

  • Step 5: Participate in a One-on-One Meeting with an Admission Administrator

    Your Parent One-on-One Meeting with a member of our admission team is an opportunity to learn more about Hillbrook and discuss your child's educational goals.

    After all other application materials and visits have been completed, we will reach out to you to schedule this meeting.
  • Step 6: Learn About Tuition Assistance

    We are deeply committed to making Hillbrook's extraordinary, passion-driven educational experience accessible to students and families who are strong philosophical matches for Hillbrook.

    Hillbrook allocates over $1 million to our tuition assistance program. 


    Please note that eligibility for admission to Hillbrook is determined entirely independent of an application for tuition assistance. To learn more about tuition assistance, visit Affording Hillbrook.
  • Final Step: Review Deadlines & Notifications

    Applications for Middle School (5th-8th grades) must be submitted by January 13, 2017 and applications for Lower School (JK-4th grades) must be received on or before January 27, 2017.

    Applications submitted after these deadlines will be considered on a space-available basis.

    All supplemental materials must be received on or before February 17, 2017.


    Our admission team reviews all applications and gives careful consideration to every applicant. We notify parents of admission decisions by both email and mail; we include enrollment agreements with acceptances. Signed agreements and deposits are due within one week of being notified.

    Admission decisions for Junior Kindergarten are mailed March 7, 2017 and emailed on March 8, 2017. Signed agreements and deposits are due March 14, 2017.

    Kindergarten-8th grade admission decisions are mailed on March 15, 2017 and emailed on March 16, 2017. Signed agreements  and deposits are due March 23, 2017.

    Does Hillbrook have a waitlist?

    We notify and place in a wait pool applicants who are excellent matches for our school and for whom there is no space available in a desired grade. We actively reach out to applicants if space becomes available.
