Reaching Beyond: Middle School Students Connect & Get Creative with Lower School Buddies During Extended Shelter in Place
How can students "reach beyond" and live our school's vision during our extended shelter in place? During a recent Reach Beyond Block, which is a dedicated time in every Hillbrook student's schedule to pursue real-world projects and to reach beyond and make a difference in the world hosted by the Scott Center for Social Entrepreneurship, middle school students created a vast video library with activities and entertainment that might enchant a lower school student. We loved seeing our middle school students practice perspective-taking to consider how lower school students might be experiencing time in quarantine and seeing them generate ideas for how to cheer up and support their peers. Videos spanned lessons on making, crafting, gardening, musical performances, inspirational messages of kindness and support, and more. We love seeing our middle schoolers get creative and show up as community leaders who are living out Hillbrook's core values - Be Kind, Be Curious, Take Risks, Be Your Best - with empathy, creativity, and good humor.
