Hillbrook students are turning action into advocacy and making an impact in our community and beyond.
At Hillbrook, reaching beyond is a core part of our program. Our innovative Reach Beyond Block, a two-hour block every Tuesday, provides students an opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom and find ways to engage in the real world. This week, students learned about the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Students researched an organization of choice that supports one or more of these goals and created a persuasive poster advocating for the organization to share with peers (and adults) during the upcoming Benefit Fair. At the Fair, our community will register votes that equate to real-life donations from the Scott Center for Social Entrepreneurship.

In the newest episode of ReMarks & Reflections
, Head of School Mark Silver welcomes Director of the Scott Center for Social Entrepreneurship Annie Makela and 6th grade English & Integrated Studies teacher Jenn Gingery to his podcast.
Jenn, with Annie’s support, designed a unit for our 6th grade students that challenged them to learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and identify ways that they could do things that would address these critical areas. ! What are the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals?
“The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.” - The Sustainable Development Goals Knowledge Platform
